Rare decorative Aurelian Ware pedestal vase with cover and twin side handles, model 143.9, designed by William Moorcroft and made by James MacIntyre & Co., Ltd., Burslem, circa 1898.
A twin-handled pedestal vase intended for cabinet display, with a shallow bowl on a tall stem and a domed cover finished with a pointed gilt finial. Decorated in the characteristic Aurelian Ware (from the Latin aureus, "golden" or "shining") palette, combining a deep cobalt-blue ground, rich gilding, and bold rust-orange floral motifs. The decoration blends transfer printing with hand-applied enamels and gilding, typical of MacIntyre's late Victorian art pottery.
The base retains traces of an erased factory mark of unknown cause and bears the impressed shape number "143.9".
A well-preserved and visually strong example of early Aurelian Ware, appreciated by collectors for its colour, gilding, and early date.
