A superb vintage Wedgwood tricolour jasperware commemorative cup created to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II's Silver Jubilee in 1977. Crafted in pale blue jasper with sage green and white accents, this elegant diced goblet is numbered 442 out of 500 produced. A fine example of late twentieth-century Wedgwood craftsmanship, highly sought after by collectors of royal memorabilia and historic commemorative ceramics.
The chalice features detailed white bas-relief decoration. One side displays the Great Seal of the United States and the other the coat of arms of Bermuda, inscribed with the motto Quo Fata Ferunt ("Whither the Fates Carry Us"). Both are framed by delicate floral swags suspended from classical medallions. A frieze of laurel leaves encircles the upper rim against a sage green band, symbolising honour and victory. Below, the lower body and spreading foot are richly decorated with a diced pattern of tiny green ivy leaves enclosed within lozenge-shaped panels, representing fidelity and endurance. The broad foot is finished with a bold acanthus leaf border, a Neoclassical motif associated with immortality and resilience.
The base is impressed with Wedgwood marks: "WEDGWOOD," "Made in England," "No. 442 HB," and "77."
