Volkstedt Galant Musician Pair Richard Eckert Porcelain c. 1894

An elegant and substantial pair of German porcelain figures by Richard Eckert & Co., Volkstedt, dating to circa 1894. These large-scale bisque figures represent the refined sentimental and Rococo Revival taste that defined decorative interiors of the late 19th century.

The sculptural detail remains crisp and matte in the bisque bodies, contrasted by glazed bases that provide depth and visual balance. The painting of the faces and costumes is delicate and controlled, executed with notable refinement.

Such figures were highly popular in Volkstedt workshops from the 1880s onward. The model likely originated in the late 19th century and continued under Richard Eckert & Co. after 1894. There is also a view that the composition may draw inspiration from 19th-century Faust and Gretchen imagery, part of the broader artistic tradition influenced by Goethe's Faust.

Both figures bear the underglaze blue mark of Richard Eckert & Co., Volkstedt, together with the incised number "30".
