An authentic English Sunderland lustre jug produced in the early 19th century, made of pearlware and decorated with overglaze transfer printing enriched by hand painting and pink-purple metallic lustre. The marbled splash effect was created by drops of oil applied before firing, giving the surface its distinctive shimmering character.
One side presents a commemorative architectural view celebrating Britain's industrial age, while the reverse bears the poetic panel "The Sailor's Farewell", framed within a floral wreath associated with Sunderland's maritime culture.
The rounded body, tall collar, pronounced spout and strong strap handle form a classic domestic silhouette of the period. Fine, age-appropriate glaze craquelure is present across the surface.
