A rare antique Derby Toby Jug ("snuff taker") made by Stevenson & Hancock, King Street, Derby, around 1862. This expressive miniature porcelain jug portrays the traditional English snuff taker — a beloved folk character, shown in the act of raising a pinch of snuff to his nose. The gesture is a humorous and iconic symbol of English tavern and street life in the 19th century, capturing the wit and customs of Georgian and Victorian Britain. Hand painted in bright enamels typical of Derby porcelain, with excellent attention to detail and classic charm. The original removable cover (top hat) is present, though there is a chip on the lower rim of the hat (see photos). The base is clearly marked with the King Street Derby emblem: crown above crossed swords, large D, and initials S and N — confirming this early and collectible Stevenson & Hancock period. A highly desirable piece for collectors of English porcelain, Derby ware, and traditional Toby Jugs.

Condition: chip to the lower rim of the hat (cover), visible in photos. Otherwise excellent antique condition: no restoration, vivid colours, original cover present.
