A pair of antique porcelain candlesticks by Sitzendorf, Germany, created at the end of the 19th century. The figural candlesticks depict a pastoral theme with two figures: a young woman seated next to a goat and holding a basket of grapes, and a young man playing a mandolin while seated on spikes of wheat.
The figures rest on ornate gilt bases adorned with Rococo details, while the candleholders are shaped like flowers in pastel colors. These pieces are both decorative and functional. Today, they are highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts of fine European porcelain.
The Sitzendorf Porcelain Factory was founded in 1850 in Sitzendorf, Thuringia, Germany. It was established during a period when the Thuringian region was a hub for porcelain production, thanks to its rich deposits of kaolin (a key ingredient in porcelain).
