An exceptional eighteenth-century Royal Sèvres soft-paste porcelain dinner plate, produced in 1777 and hand-painted by the celebrated flower painter Ambroise Michel. His distinctive painter's mark, recorded in the official Registry of Painters and Decorators of the Royal Sèvres Manufactory, allows this plate to be attributed to one of the factory's most accomplished artists.
Entrusted with decorating prestigious royal and diplomatic services, Ambroise Michel worked on some of the finest porcelain produced by Sèvres during the reign of Louis XVI. Examples of these celebrated Sèvres plates are today preserved in the collections of the Louvre Museum, the Palace of Versailles and other leading museums. This authentic Royal Sèvres plate offers the rare opportunity to own a genuine museum-quality example of eighteenth-century French porcelain.
Authenticity is confirmed by the underglaze cobalt-blue crossed "LL"s, accompanied on the left by the year letter "z" for 1777. The elegant Assiette à palmes shape, designed by Jean-Claude Duplessis, features a refined twelve-lobed basketweave border, delicate cobalt-blue scrollwork and beautifully hand-painted floral bouquets executed in vibrant enamel colours.

Condition:
Wear to the gilding around the rim, entirely consistent with more than 250 years of careful use. The hand-painted decoration remains in excellent condition, with only light age-related surface wear to the white ground. A small later suspension hole has been drilled through the reverse border for wall display, as shown in the photographs. No chips, cracks, hairlines or restorations. The plate has been examined under UV light, and the accompanying photographs include UV images confirming the absence of restoration.
