Royal Worcester porcelain figure of a girl holding a bowl, designed by James Hadley and issued in 1954 as model no. 1774. This mid-century bone china edition represents a post-war reissue of one of Worcester's most successful late nineteenth-century sculptural compositions, a design that remained in steady demand for decades. The gilt decorative treatment reflects 1950s taste and was especially popular on the American export market.
Finely potted in thin bone china, the figure is finished in extensive dead-matte gilding across the dress and base, contrasted with white porcelain flesh tones. The modelling retains the charm and balance of Hadley's original pastoral conception.
Marks to the underside: black printed Royal Worcester factory backstamp introduced in 1951. Above "Made in England" appears the letter W flanked by two dots to the left and two to the right (four dots in total), the Worcester date code for 1954. Impressed model number 1774.
Highly desirable to collectors of Royal Worcester sculpture as a gilt reissue of a classic Hadley model.
