A magnificent Royal Copenhagen porcelain sculpture titled "Wave and Rock", after a celebrated model by Swedish sculptor Theodor Lundberg (1852-1926).
This dramatic and highly expressive composition depicts a bound young man seated upon a rocky outcrop while a maiden rises from the sea to kiss him. The scene is filled with movement and emotion, with the swirling waves rendered in Royal Copenhagen's iconic cobalt-blue underglaze decoration.
The contrast between the deep blue sea and the luminous white porcelain figures creates a striking visual impact. Every angle reveals new details, from the flowing movement of the waves to the carefully modelled anatomy and expressive poses of the figures.
Originally designed in 1897, this example was produced in 1968 and bears the Royal Copenhagen wave mark, painter's monogram KK, and model number 1132. The rock base also carries Lundberg's LT monogram and the original model date.
