A rare Wedgwood Fairyland Lustre bowl designed by Daisy Makeig-Jones and produced in England circa 1915. Pattern Z4828 is recorded in the Wedgwood Decoration Book as a Turkish-Blue Lustre bowl with a Yellow Lustre interior decorated with dragons and Oriental motifs.
The exterior displays an unusual pearl-grey Turkish-Blue lustre ground with iridescent tones of blue, silver, violet and soft green, enriched with crimson mottling and scattered gilt Oriental motifs. The interior features a luminous Yellow Lustre ground centred by a superbly painted dragon with finely rendered scales, whiskers and net-patterned details.
Among Fairyland Lustre wares, Z4828 is one of the scarcer dragon patterns. The rare colour combination and exceptional quality of the dragon decoration make this an especially attractive cabinet piece for collectors of Wedgwood and early twentieth-century art pottery.
