A rare and exceptionally elegant Kutani porcelain vase from the Kinrin Workshop, Kaga province, Japan, c.1890. This finely potted baluster vase is hand-painted in vibrant iron red and rich gold enamels, with classic Kutani motifs. The silhouette is especially refined, and close analogues are virtually unobtainable on the market. The body features panels of flowers and birds, set among cloud-shaped cartouches with Japanese landscapes and rural houses. Delicate gilding highlights elaborate floral and geometric designs, showing the remarkable skill of the Kinrin studio artist. Marked to the base in red: 加賀国錦林製 ("Kaga no kuni, Kinrin sei" — "Made by Kinrin, Kaga province"). This mark is typical of high-end export Kutani porcelain made for Western collectors in the late Meiji period, especially for the United States and Great Britain. Kinrin's work stands out for its fine linework and restrained opulence, with fine gilt details and lighter enamel application, clearly distinguished from more commercial Kutani wares. A museum-quality example of 19th-century Kutani export porcelain, prized for its decorative appeal, technical finesse, and outstanding rarity. Comparable pieces are held in major museums and have appeared at leading international auctions.
Condition: Excellent antique condition. There is a small original firing flaw (factory dimple) on the upper shoulder and minor enamel loss to the upper and lower rim. Otherwise superb preservation. The original wooden stand is included.
