Historical Background
The Derby porcelain factory, established in Derby, England, in the mid-18th century, is renowned for its high-quality soft-paste porcelain. Under the leadership of William Duesbury, the factory gained prominence for producing finely crafted decorative and functional wares. In 1773, it received a royal warrant, becoming known as Royal Crown Derby. Celebrated for its elegant figurines, intricate floral patterns, and vibrant enamel decoration often highlighted with gold, Derby porcelain evolved during the 19th century to reflect changing tastes. Elaborate Victorian designs became a hallmark of this period. Today, Royal Crown Derby remains a symbol of English porcelain craftsmanship and artistic excellence.
