This is a rare and complete set of four patinated bronzed sculptures by Estcourt James Clack, a distinguished mid-20th-century British sculptor. Each piece depicts one of the Four Apostles—Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John—and is signed and dated 1970, making them among Clack's final creations. The figures are mounted on stable marble bases and showcase the artist's strong focus on religious and traditional themes.
Clack studied at the South London Technical School of Art (known as the Lambeth School of Art) in the early 1930s and exhibited at the Whitechapel Art Gallery in 1933 and 1936. A member of the Royal Society of British Sculptors, he won the Otto Beit Prize in 1947 and went on to create several notable public works, including pieces for Wells Cathedral and the ‘Diana of the Treetops' fountain in Green Park, London.
Because these sculptures were produced in limited quantities, finding another identical set is extraordinarily unlikely. Their rarity, combined with both historical and artistic significance, makes this quartet highly desirable for collectors of religious or mid-century sculpture.

One sculpture (marked "Luke") has a chip on the back.
