A finely modelled French porcelain figural group in the Niderviller style, dating to the late 18th century, circa 1774-1789. A cabinet-scale composition of generous size, combining refined modelling with strong decorative presence.
The scene presents a romantic "love letter" moment. The seated female figure holds a letter, while the male figure approaches with flowers, using the occasion to court her. A postal satchel is visible at his back. A dove rests on her lap, reinforcing the theme of love and communication. The male figure wears a lightly classicised "Roman" costume. A dog and sheep complete the pastoral setting, with a richly modelled bocage rising behind.
The composition follows a model documented in 1764 by Johann Joachim Kändler, here interpreted in a French late 18th-century idiom.
Executed in hard-paste porcelain with hand-painted polychrome enamels. The underside bears a crowned double-C mark of a type associated with Niderviller; however, such marks were also used by other French makers, and a definitive attribution cannot be stated with absolute certainty.
