This Japanese Satsuma incense burner (koro) dates to the late Meiji period and is signed Kizan beneath the underglaze blue Shimazu crest. The rounded form is decorated in the sought-after gosu-blue palette, with spiralling cobalt and turquoise waves rising into clusters of chrysanthemum picked out in raised gold. The domed metal lid—pierced with radiating ribs around a chrysanthemum boss—adds a sculptural finish. The original wooden stand is included for display.
The colours, raised gilding and compact sculptural presence make this an ideal accent piece for shelves, consoles or small curated displays.
