Late 17th-Century Arita Aka-e Porcelain Dish, 24.5 cm — Museum Quality

A refined Arita (Hizen) dish from c.1680-1700, painted in iron-red, green and yellow enamels on a luminous thin white ground. At centre sits a chrysanthemum rosette, surrounded by a red cloud band and a scrolling leaf border punctuated by red roundels. The knife-finished unglazed foot bears minute kiln grit — a signature of early Hizen workmanship.

Light and resonant (344 g at 24.5 cm) and UV-tested clean. No restorations or repaint, only light ring wear. This early Arita enamel represents the transitional phase between domestic wares and Japanese export porcelain admired in Europe. Museum parallels include the V&A, Rijksmuseum and Kyushu Ceramic Museum (Shibata Collection).
