Large Limbach Porcelain Woman with Basket, Thuringia, c.1825

£1,000.00
A large early 19th-century Limbach porcelain figure representing a standing woman resting her arms on a vertically formed basket. In her right hand she holds a small needle case, an attribute associated with domestic needlework in late 18th- and early 19th-century genre figures, reflecting everyday themes favoured in German porcelain of the period.

The basket is moulded with a woven texture and highlighted in blue, while the shaped base is finished in naturalistic tones with applied scrollwork. Due to the complexity of the manufacturing process, the underside shows two firing holes related to ventilation and pressure control during firing. The underside bears a blue underglaze mark of the period.

An attractive and well-preserved example of early Thuringian porcelain, appealing to collectors of German genre figures.
