A fine pair of French Vieux Paris hard-paste porcelain perfume bottles dating to the Louis Philippe period, c.1835-1845, attributed to the celebrated Jacob Petit manufactory of Fontainebleau and Paris. These elegant bottles represent the type of luxury porcelain created for fashionable French boudoirs during the middle decades of the nineteenth century.
Each bottle is decorated with a deep Bleu de Roi cobalt ground enriched with gilding and a hand-painted floral motif on the reverse. The principal panels depict lively tavern and dancing scenes after the works of David Teniers the Younger (1610-1690), the renowned Flemish master of genre painting. French porcelain artists did not merely draw inspiration from Teniers, but directly copied figures, poses and entire scenes from his engravings and paintings.
The square bodies stand on flat unglazed bases. The porcelain displays a characteristic greyish-milk tone together with tiny dark kiln specks, traces of scale produced during firing in wood-burning kilns. Small contraction lines visible on the bases are original firing features formed during cooling and are characteristic of early nineteenth-century French porcelain.
Following the tradition of paired toilet sets during the Louis Philippe era, these companion bottles formed part of luxurious dressing-table services. One bottle would traditionally have contained Eau de Toilette while the other held aromatic vinegar or scented oils.
Both retain their rare original disc-shaped porcelain stoppers decorated with gilded rosettes. Pieces from this series were deliberately left unsigned by Petit to comply with the requirements of elite Parisian luxury boutiques such as Maison Lahoche.
Particularly noteworthy is the outstanding preservation of the miniature paintings, which remain free from significant damage and retain their original detail and colour.

Bottle 1: Height 16.5 cm, length 7.3 cm, width 7.2 cm, weight 505 g.
Bottle 2: Height 16.7 cm, length 7.3 cm, width 7.4 cm, weight 509 g.
Condition:
Bottle 1: Restoration to the upper rim. Wear to the gilding on the edges. Evidence of repair to the edge on the right side of the painted panel. Two firing cracks to the base. The painted panel remains in excellent condition.
Bottle 2: Chip to the lower edge on the right side of the painted panel. Cracks visible on two sides. Traces of adhesive where the neck joins the body. Wear to the gilding on the edges. The painted panel remains in excellent condition.
