Giesshübel porcelain cup and saucer in the Empire style, produced in Bohemia in the early 19th century, on the territory of today's Czech Republic. The Giesshübel (Kysibl) factory was active from the opening years of the century and is closely associated with refined porcelain made in response to contemporary European taste.
During this formative phase, the factory operated under the direction of Benedikt Knaute, whose leadership marked a decisive rise in quality. Under Knaute, both the porcelain body and painted decoration were significantly refined, allowing Giesshübel wares to compete credibly with the best contemporary French Empire porcelain.
The cup and saucer are decorated in a restrained yet luxurious Empire palette, with a deep green ground extensively enriched with gilding. The pedestal form of the cup is typical of early 19th-century Empire porcelain.
At this period, the factory often did not apply factory marks, a practice characteristic of early 19th-century porcelain production.
Cup and saucer sets from this early Empire phase of Bohemian porcelain are uncommon today. Examples retaining their original green ground decoration and gilding are particularly scarce due to wear, making this set a desirable survivor of the period.

Saucer: diameter 13.7 cm; height 3.4 cm; weight 174 g.
Condition
Saucer: minor wear to painted decoration and gilding; otherwise good antique condition.
Cup: strong wear to the gilding inside the cup; otherwise good antique condition.
