A refined pair of French Paris porcelain figures dating to the mid-late 19th century, modelled as a gallant and his lady in 18th-century costume. Conceived as a masquerade courtship scene, the figures embody the Parisian revival taste inspired by the work of Vion & Baury.
Executed in glazed polychrome porcelain rather than biscuit, the pair displays a luminous surface and rich chromatic depth, enhancing the sculptural modelling and decorative detail. Unmarked Paris porcelain figures of this type are well documented for the period, particularly among smaller ateliers working within the wider revival tradition. In some cases, Parisian workshops acquired unpainted blanks and decorated them independently, a common practice in 19th-century Paris.

Gentleman: height 25.5 cm, width 12.5 cm, depth 11.5 cm, weight 941 g.
Condition:
Lady: excellent antique condition. Examined under UV light; no cracks, no restoration. Polychrome enamels and gilding are well preserved.
Gentleman: the index finger of the right hand is chipped. Minor losses to the gilding. Firing cracks to the base of the column against which the figure rests. Otherwise in excellent antique condition. Examined under UV light; no cracks or restoration detected.
