A pair of late 19th-century Dresden flute-shaped vases, cobalt blue ground with gilt overlay, each enclosing a hand-painted panel depicting oval classical scenes of figures in 18th-century dress set in landscapes. The scene is framed by gilded floral motifs. The vase has a cobalt blue background with gilded floral decoration to the neck and back of the vase. The rim of the vase is gilded over a gilded diamond and scrollwork band. The framing of the cartouche and the upper rim of the vase are gilded. The cobalt blue surface is painted by German masters of porcelain painting with thin lines of gold flowers. Beautiful Dresden porcelain adorns many museums and private collections around the world. It can become part of your home collection.
The two vases appear to have been made by the craftsmen of Donath & Co.
Donath & Co, Dresden, Germany, was founded in 1872. The studio decorated porcelain in a style that was a mixture of Dresden and Viennese flower painting. In 1916, Donath & Co merged with another Dresden porcelain decorating studio run by Richard Klemm. The vases are marked in blue on the bottom.
The condition of the vases is excellent considering their age, one vase has a small chip to the upper rim, the colour is very well preserved, minimal gilding loss.
Height 23.2 cm
Upper diameter 12.1 cm
