A rare and finely preserved pair of early Derby candlestick figures, known as "Seated Musicians with Bagpipes and Guitar", each raised on an openwork scroll base. The piper plays beside a hound, while the young woman holds a stringed instrument with a lamb at her side. Both compositions rise into a flowering bocage with a single candleholder, forming a balanced mirror pair.
Comparable examples are held in the Victoria & Albert Museum. The model corresponds to Derby factory no. 280, discussed by Peter Bradshaw. Twitchett notes that such flowering bocage and pierced scroll bases define some of Derby's most successful c. 1765 designs. This variant, among related models E12, E13 and 307, is regarded by collectors as the finest.
Both figures retain their original instruments, with strong modelling and rich enamels typical of the early Duesbury period. A museum-level pair, unusually complete with bocage and original matching bases.

Condition:
Girl: some flowers chipped; otherwise excellent, the mandolin intact, the lamb intact, and the candlestick preserved on its original base.
Piper: loss to the central feather on the hat; some flowers chipped; spikes on the dog's collar chipped; candlestick on its original base; otherwise in excellent antique condition.
