A striking large Wedgwood lustre bowl designed by Daisy Makeig-Jones around 1915, from the earliest Z-series of her Fairyland Lustre work. The exterior shows a rare marbled lustre ground blending rose, ochre, green and violet iridescent tones, encircled by two finely engraved gilt Eastern dragons. A delicate Gothic-style gilt border completes the rim.
Inside, warm orange lustre with purplish-red spatter mottling creates a richly textured surface, combined with a fine underglaze crackle network typical of early lustre production. The interior walls are decorated with small gilt Chinese scholar's objects including musical instruments, scrolls, vessels and stands, while the centre features an elaborate gilt medallion with a fantastical creature.
The base is finished in green lustre with a gilt Wedgwood England mark and pattern number Z4823. A highly decorative cabinet-size bowl with strong visual impact and early Z-series rarity.

A small restored chip to the rim. A small loss of green colouring to the base beneath the glaze from manufacture. Gilding and lustre surfaces remain very well preserved overall.
