Refined Parisian figural group by Bourdois & Bloch, c.1868: a singer holds a sheet inscribed DUO while her gallant partner accompanies on guitar. Bodies in glazed hard-paste porcelain; lavish ruffles in biscuit made by the French "porcelain lace" technique, where real fabric burns out in the kiln to leave delicate lace. Hand enamelling in a vivid Paris palette; rococo base with painterly ground and gilt scrolls. Marked underneath with an underglaze crossed-swords device with the letters, associated with Bourdois & Bloch; the porcelain body is likely Limoges with decoration in their Paris atelier. Collectible for its intact instrument (rare on such groups), crisp biscuit lace and professional facial detailing.
Condition: loss to the little finger of the musician's right hand; minor losses to the biscuit lace. Otherwise excellent: enamels and gilding fresh, no chips or cracks. Guitar intact.
