This exquisite antique Wedgwood lustre bowl, pattern Z4826, dates to around 1915 and features the rare Boston shape. The exterior features a pale grey and lilac geometric diaper design, overlaid with a subtle mother-of-pearl lustre glaze. The surface reveals an iridescent shimmer—flashes of pink, green, violet, and gold—visible under good lighting, giving the bowl a refined and luminous effect.
The interior is richly finished in a deep orange lustre with crimson mottling and delicate gilt detailing along the inner rim. At the centre, two stylised goldfish are depicted in fine gilded linework, surrounded by subtle aquatic motifs. The base bears the printed Wedgwood Portland Vase mark and the hand-painted pattern number Z4826.
This design is part of the celebrated "Ordinary Lustre" series by Daisy Makeig-Jones, an influential Wedgwood designer known for her fantastical, iridescent styles. This range was her first major success, introduced in October 1914 with ten numbered patterns (Z4823-Z4832). This bowl, Z4826, is the fourth design in the series. The range remained in production until 1929 and is now highly collectible.
