A refined Nymphenburg porcelain butter dish with cover, c.1895, from the Louis XVIII service. Translucent porcelain body with fluted moulding and scalloped edges, hand-painted floral decoration and gilded accents. Marked with the crowned shield of Nymphenburg in blue and impressed factory numerals. The pattern reflects the 19th-century revival of Rococo court style in Bavaria.
