A superb late 19th century (Meiji) Japanese Satsuma miniature vase of high quality, finished with a classic ivory crackle glaze and fitted with delicate twin loop handles. The body is richly decorated in polychrome enamels and generous gilding, with a refined figural frieze of seated robed figures gathered in a tranquil landscape, with subtle architectural details and soft background washes.
Despite its small scale, the workmanship is crisp and controlled, with carefully defined faces, textiles and gold patterning, giving the piece a distinctly upper-tier Meiji Satsuma character. The base bears the Shimazu mon (family crest) above a square gilt-on-black mark.
In excellent antique condition with no cracks, no chips and no repairs; only light, age-appropriate rubbing to the gilding.
