Antique Meiji Japanese Satsuma Vase with Samurai & Ladies, Cylindrical Form, Shimazu Mark

£600.00
A finely painted Meiji-period Japanese Satsuma cylindrical vase on three small feet. The tall, slender body is completely wrapped in scenes of samurai, nobles, attendants, women and children painted in minute brushstrokes of enamel and gold.
Large reserves alternate with smaller roundels, framed by dense geometric brocade patterns typical of high-quality Satsuma made for export around 1885-1900. The warm cream earthenware body with fine crackle ground carries the blue Shimazu clan crest above a red-and-gold Satsuma-yaki cartouche.
A compact vertical accent with strong narrative detail, ideal for a cabinet or a Japonisme interior.
