Wonderful antique earthenware jug transfer printed in black with Masonic designs, painted with blue and red flowers and trimmed with pink lustreware borders. Of baluster body with large lip and a sturdy handle. Depicting the shield, mottos and symbols of the Odd Fellows order, including "Estote Fideles" and "Friendship over Truth".
Made in England, c. 1840's.

One of the most famous Friendly Societies in the Commonwealth, Odd Fellows is an international fraternity consisting of lodges first documented in 1730 in London. Both modern Freemasonry and the Odd Fellows came into existence around the same time, the 18th century, and both came from the workers guilds. However, unlike the Freemasons that put emphasis on self-improvement, the Odd Fellowship prioritised doing good works in the community.
Excellent antique condition. Just bellow the medallion there is a hairline crack to the glazing - manufacturing defect; light wear to lustre around the rim.
