A striking pair of large Japanese Imari porcelain jardinieres, Meiji period, circa 1880. Each is robustly potted in an elegant oval form and hand-painted in the classic Imari palette of underglaze cobalt blue, iron red, and green enamel. The sides feature blossoming trees, garden fences, and stylized floral reserves, all executed with fine brushwork and vibrant color. Entirely hand-painted, these jardinieres are typical of high-quality Imari ware from the late 19th century. Both pieces are unmarked, as is standard for large Meiji period Imari. Likely made in the Arita region, Saga province, Kyushu, the historic heart of Japanese Imari porcelain since the 17th century. Imari porcelain is renowned for its vibrant decoration and technical mastery, playing a significant role in Japanese culture and export history.
