An exceptionally thinly potted Japanese export porcelain beaker vase produced in the Arita region around 1860-1880. Created for the Western export market, this elegant eggshell porcelain vessel reflects the refined craftsmanship associated with high-quality Hichozan Shinpo wares of the early Meiji period.
The painted decoration depicts lively theatrical and festival scenes with children and performers carrying fans, bows, hobby horses and musical elements. The expressive poses and stylised costumes recall the Kabuki-inspired decorative taste popular in late Edo and early Meiji export porcelain. A thin gilt band encircles the rim.
The underside bears the red overglaze mark "Hichozan Shinpo zō", meaning "Made by Hichozan Shinpo". The Hichozan Shinpo name belonged to an important export consortium directed by the merchant Tashiro Monzaemon, who coordinated porcelain production in Arita for export to Europe and America. One of the workshops associated with this export network was the famous Fukagawa family of hereditary porcelain potters.

An elegant antique German Sitzendorf porcelain centrepiece dating to the late Victorian period, formed as an elaborate egg-shaped vase supported by three finely modelled cherubs. Victorian Sitzendorf Cherub Centrepiece Vase, Germany, c.1884-1902
A richly ornamental German Sitzendorf porcelain centrepiece dating to the late 19th century, designed as a cracked-egg vase supported by three winged cherubs. The composition combines sculptural Rococo Revival modelling with dense applied floral decoration, creating a highly decorative statement piece for both traditional and eclectic interiors.
The glazed hard-paste porcelain body is adorned with applied roses, moulded leaves and trailing vines in soft pastel colours. A rare Japanese Imari porcelain sugar bowl and cover produced in Arita during the early Meiji period, circa 1870-1880. The piece belongs to the Hichozan Fukagawa group associated with the workshop of Eizaemon Fukagawa, one of the most important early exporters of Japanese porcelain to Western markets.
The form reflects European tea-drinking customs, with three feet, large scroll handles and a domed cover. A finely decorated Japanese export porcelain sugar bowl and cover produced in the Arita region during the early Meiji period, circa 1870-1880. The piece belongs to the Hichozan Fukagawa group of export wares associated with the workshop of Eizaemon Fukagawa, one of the leading figures in the development of Japanese porcelain for Western markets before founding the Koransha company in 1875.
The form is distinctly Western in function, created for export tea services as sugar was not traditionally used in Japanese tea culture. Raised on three feet and fitted with large C-scroll handles and a domed cover, the piece is decorated in the classic Imari export palette of cobalt blue, iron-red enamels, green highlights and abundant gilding on a dense white porcelain body. Large applied gilt leaves and the pointed gilded finial give the sugar bowl a sculptural appearance.

Koransha, founded by Eizaemon Fukagawa in Arita in 1875, received a Certificate of Merit at the 1876 Philadelphia Centennial Exposition and won a Gold Prize at the 1878 Paris Exposition Universelle for its Japanese export porcelain.
This piece has strong antique and collector's value, as the Hichozan Fukagawa mark was used for a relatively short period and had already fallen out of use before the official establishment of the Fukagawa Seiji factory in 1894.

Hermann Schubert était un célèbre sculpteur allemand et professeur à l'Académie des Beaux-Arts de Dresde. Entre 1903 et 1916, il collabora avec Royal Dux comme artiste invité indépendant, créant des modèles originaux ensuite traduits en porcelaine par la manufacture.

A striking pair of Royal Dux Bohemia Art Nouveau figures modelled by Hermann Schubert in 1912. The seated maidens beneath spreading trees are accompanied by winged putti and integrated baskets, creating an elegant sculptural composition with strong decorative presence.
Executed in matte biscuit porcelain with delicate gilding and softly shaded pastel enamels, the pair displays the refined Art Nouveau style associated with the finest Royal Dux production.
