An elegant and distinctive octagonal porcelain jug, dating to around 1825. This finely moulded piece features a striking lion's head spout and is decorated with lavender blue sprigged classical figures of children and ladies in a neoclassical style.
Although unmarked, similar examples appear in Henrywood's British Jugs (plate 285) and the Transferware Collectors Club database (#7438), attributed to an unknown maker. A nearly identical lion's head spout was used by Samuel Alcock, suggesting a possible attribution to his factory or contemporaries.
A refined example of early 19th-century English porcelain, this jug would make a beautiful addition to any collection of neoclassical or decorative antique ceramics.
