Worcester Regency Porcelain Dragon Bowl, Flight Barr & Barr Period, c. 1815

£1,200.00
Antique English porcelain bowl produced at the Worcester Porcelain Manufactory during the Flight, Barr & Barr period in the early nineteenth century. The gently rising circular form with a subtly everted rim is finely potted in light hard-paste porcelain and finished with a delicate gilt edge.

The bowl is decorated in the celebrated Dragon in Compartments pattern. The exterior features four lobed cartouches enclosing a sinuous dragon and a qilin, divided by reserves of symbolic precious objects on stands. The interior is arranged with four identical panels of auspicious objects placed symmetrically around the centre of the bowl. The composition follows the classical scheme of the Dragon in Compartments pattern and represents the complete version of the design adapted to the bowl form.

The decoration derives from Chinese Kangxi famille-verte porcelain of the early eighteenth century and was introduced at Worcester in the 1760s, remaining one of the factory's most admired decorative schemes into the Regency period.

A collector's label from "The Flight Collection", numbered 127, is affixed beneath, documenting provenance from the historically significant Flight family collection of Regency Worcester porcelain.

This bowl represents a rare survival of Worcester's most celebrated chinoiserie pattern in an elegant display form highly sought after by collectors of early English porcelain.
