Porcelain cup and saucer, England, produced at the Worcester Porcelain Manufactory during the Flight, Barr & Barr period (1813-1840). Sixteen-sided fluted form with concave scalloped walls; the cup with refined loop handle, the saucer conforming in matching faceted profile. Decorated in the celebrated Dragon in Compartments pattern, also known as Bengal Tiger or Kylin, with a dragon and a kylin in opposing lobed panels divided by reserves of vases and precious objects. Enamelled in rich famille-verte colours — iron-red, blue, purple, green and yellow — with fine gilt detailing and gilt rims.
The pattern derives from Chinese Kangxi famille-verte prototypes of the early 18th century and was introduced at Worcester around 1765-1768, becoming one of the factory's most admired and enduring decorative schemes through the Regency period. The Flight, Barr & Barr years represent one of the high points of Worcester craftsmanship.
Impressed crowned FBB mark to the base. A paper collector's label reading "The Flight Collection", numbered 127, is affixed beneath. The label refers to the collection formed by Howard Emerson Flight (1948-2026), direct descendant of Thomas Flight, whose family acquired the Worcester factory in 1783. Portions of the collection were sold through Bonhams in 2023 and later via Toovey's. Acquiring Worcester porcelain from this lineage collection is an exceptionally rare opportunity.
