Stunning pair of twin handled cylindrical vases, painted with exotic birds within gilded scroll cartouche reserved to a blue and foliate gilded ground,
Signed to N. Keates, a painter who worked from 1907 to 1961. Marked to base with RA7634, denoting the artisan as Robert Allen, who was responsible for decorating much of the Burslem ornamental ware exhibited by Doulton at the great exhibition of the 1890s. Later an important pattern designer and the originator of the ‘Ra' numbered patterns. He was working from 1870-1929.
The Royal Doulton mark as seen here was used from 1902 to 1922. Hence, these vases are dated to approximately 1907 - 1922.

Excellent antique condition. One vase with a chipped off piece along the upper edge, crack inside which is not visible from the outside at the bottom of the scuffs on the glaze - small paint is perfectly preserved. The second vase, a small crack goes inward from the outside, not really seen - excellent condition of the art.
