Wonderful set of three antique porcelain crested ware beakers, Grafton China, delicate and tilted.
The inscription of "Manchester Odd Unity" refers to one of the most famous Friendly Societies in the Commonwealth. Odd Fellows is an international fraternity consisting of lodges first documented in 1730 in London. Both modern Freemasonry and the Odd Fellows came into existence around the same time, the 18th century, and both came from the workers guilds. However, unlike the Freemasons that put emphasis on self-improvement, the Odd Fellowship prioritised doing good works in the community.
Marked to A.B. Jones and Sons, porcelain & earthenware manufacturer at Grafton Works, Longton, Stoke-on-Trent. As they are made in celebration of the centenary of the Odd Fellows, and corresponding to the appropriate design of the maker's marks, they are indeed dated to 1910.
The cups are 9.4 cm in height, 7.5 cm in diameter, and 5.5 cm in lower diameter.
Excellent antique condition, no signs of restoration, cracks. There are some dots of pain, appear to be factory defects.
