An ornate German porcelain centrepiece attributed to C. G. Schierholz & Sohn, Plaue, c.1907. Modelled as a reticulated Rococo basket carried by two cherubs, it is richly decorated with applied roses in pink, yellow and violet hues.
Schierholz's floral work was executed almost entirely by specialist female modellers, each petal formed individually by hand. Their craftsmanship gives Plaue roses their distinctive depth and realism. The cherubs, with soft detailing and naturalistic colouring, reflect the workshop's sculptural idiom of the late nineteenth and early twentieth century.
This is a decorative and characterful piece from a factory closely associated with German princely households.
