An elegant pair of 19th-century porcelain figures attributed to the Samson workshop in Paris, dating to around 1880. Inspired by the famous 18th-century Derby "Idyllic Musicians", the male figure plays a flageolet and originally held a tabor stick (now missing), while the female figure holds a triangle (striker missing). Both figures stand gracefully in soft enamel tones with rococo details, consistent with Samson's revivalist interpretations of earlier porcelain masterpieces. The glaze surface is soft in texture and tone, and the crossed baton mark beneath each figure is done in purple, a color not used by Derby but characteristic of Samson's imitation markings.
Condition and Dimensions:
Male figure: height 21 cm, width 10 cm, depth 11 cm, weight 506 g. Loss to stick in right hand, chips to green leaves and base, minor enamel wear.
Female figure: height 21 cm, width 11 cm, depth 9.5 cm, weight 482 g. Loss of triangle striker, chips to leaves, minor enamel wear.
Both in very good antique condition with excellent preservation of faces and costumes.
