A finely modelled Samson of Paris porcelain figure representing a bacchante, executed in the Derby style and dating to the mid-19th century. The figure belongs to a recognised Samson series referred to as the "Four Muses", with closely related examples sharing the same pose, attributes and decorative treatment. She stands in an elegant contrapposto pose, holding grapes, with a tambourine at her feet, reflecting Bacchic iconography.

The decoration features a vivid cobalt-blue drapery that immediately attracts attention, enriched with scattered gilt ornament, combined with soft flesh tones and finely painted facial features.

The underside bears a puce mark of a crown above a letter "D", a type of mark used by Samson in imitation of Derby factory marks. Samson of Paris was renowned for producing highly accomplished interpretations of European porcelain, often mistaken for original factory pieces. A striking cabinet piece from a recognised Samson series, highly appealing to collectors of European porcelain.
