Royal Worcester “The Young Mozart” Porcelain Figure, Model 1487, 1928

£700.00
A rare Royal Worcester bone china figure of "The Young Mozart", model 1487, depicting a young violinist tuning the pegs of his violin. He stands on a circular gilt base with a stool and books behind him, giving depth to the composition. The modelling is academic, with refined attention to the hands, violin and folds of the costume. Executed in glazed bone china with softly matt enamels and gilt detailing to the base. The base bears the factory marks and the impressed model number 1487.

This cabinet-size version relates to the celebrated 1890 large-scale model created to commemorate the centenary of Mozart's death in 1791. The reduced format was produced in a limited run and is considerably scarcer than the monumental version. The design is associated with Sir Thomas Brock, who began his career in Worcester before becoming one of Britain's leading monumental sculptors.
