An outstanding English porcelain cabinet plate produced by the Royal Worcester Porcelain Company in 1936 and signed by the factory's celebrated fruit painter Richard Sebright.
The central composition depicts two ripe apples, several blackberries and delicate wild flowers, all executed in beautifully shaded overglaze enamels. Surrounding the painting is a rich cobalt-blue ground border lavishly embellished with ornate hand-applied gold decoration and finely executed raised jewelled gilding formed from numerous individually applied gold enamel beads.
Richard Sebright (1870-1959) is officially regarded as the greatest fruit painter in the history of Royal Worcester. During a career spanning more than fifty years, he perfected the factory's famous fruit-painting tradition through exceptional realism and remarkably refined colour modelling. His signed works are considered museum-quality pieces and continue to achieve record prices at major international auctions.
Royal Worcester received the Grand Prix at the 1900 Paris Exposition Universelle and the Grand Prix at the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair, confirming its position among the world's leading porcelain manufacturers during the early twentieth century.
The underside bears the authentic puce Royal Worcester factory mark incorporating the date code for 1936, together with factory technological marks.
