Royal Worcester Blush Ivory Victorian Tea Set Teapot Cup Saucer 1893–1894

Royal Worcester Blush Ivory Victorian Tea Set Teapot Cup Saucer 1893–1894

£600.00
A refined Royal Worcester porcelain tea set comprising a teapot with cover together with a cup and saucer, produced in England in the early 1890s. The pieces are decorated on the characteristic blush ivory ground, a softly shaded creamy glaze closely associated with Worcester porcelain of the late Victorian period.

The decoration consists of light naturalistic floral sprays including chrysanthemum blossoms. The popularity of this flower in European decorative arts during the late nineteenth century reflected the influence of Japanese art and porcelain, where the chrysanthemum was regarded as an important national symbol.

The teapot has a pleasing rounded body with domed lid, while the cup is slightly tapering and the saucer simple in form, allowing the floral decoration to remain clearly visible. On the base appears the puce Royal Worcester factory mark together with pattern number 4158. The teapot is dated 1894, while the cup and saucer are dated 1893.
