This exceptional Royal Dux Bohemia porcelain centrepiece dates to the 1920s and embodies the finest qualities of Art Nouveau and Jugendstil design. Beautifully crafted in Czechoslovakia, it depicts a serene water bearer seated atop a rocky outcrop, pouring from a golden amphora into an enormous stylised clam shell.
The piece is masterfully modelled in the round, with a blend of matte and glossy glazes. The water bearer's cobalt blue gown flows in elegant folds, contrasting with the matte ivory finish of her skin, while the shell exhibits warm ochre and sandy tones enhanced by naturalistic shading. Stylistically, the piece bridges the flowing organic lines of Art Nouveau with the romantic symbolism characteristic of Jugendstil decorative art.
Marked on the base with the Royal Dux pink triangle (c.1918-1945), impressed model number 1047, and a green ‘Made in Czechoslovakia' stamp. A perfect decorative object for collectors of Art Nouveau, Jugendstil, Belle Époque, or marine-themed interiors.
Ideal as a table centrepiece, fruit bowl, floral arrangement vessel, or statement display item.
