Of compact drum form with integral side pockets and a scroll handle, the body incorporates a central inkwell aperture, three additional circular apertures, two narrow tubular holders and one wider front holder. Finely potted in light hard-paste porcelain and richly gilded, this is a rare and highly antique survival in an uncommon writing form.\u003cbr\u003e\n\u003cbr\u003e\nThe apertures accommodate quills of varying diameters and other writing implements, while the broader holder suits a larger tool such as a penknife. The two side \"ears\" function as open trays for cleaning material used in maintaining quills.\u003cbr\u003e\n\u003cbr\u003e\nDecorated in the celebrated Dragon in Compartments pattern (also known as Bengal Tiger or Kylin), with a sinuous oriental dragon within shaped reserves framed by dense gilding. Introduced at Worcester in the 1760s after Kangxi famille-verte prototypes, it became one of the factory's most admired schemes.\u003cbr\u003e\n\u003cbr\u003e\nA paper label reading \"The Flight Collection\" is affixed beneath, confirming provenance from the Worcester collection formed by Howard Emerson Flight, direct descendant of Thomas Flight.
