A rare Wedgwood Fairyland Lustre bowl designed by Daisy Makeig-Jones and decorated in one of the series' most celebrated early patterns. Introduced in 1914, it belongs to the pioneering period of Fairyland Lustre production, when some of the designer's most innovative and enduring creations first appeared.
The bowl is decorated in Wedgwood pattern Z4827 from the No. 5 Lustre Range. A faint and partially worn Z4827 pattern number can still be discerned on the base. The exterior is finished in a rich ruby lustre glaze with deep crimson and burgundy mottling beneath the surface, enriched with scattered gilded Oriental motifs and gold borders.
The interior is decorated in luminous Mother-of-Pearl Lustre with iridescent reflections of green, blue, pink and gold. Four finely painted butterflies decorate the sides of the bowl, while the central medallion features a large gilded rose surrounded by buds and foliage. The inner rim showcases the repeating Pan-Fei pattern in gold.
Although the pattern remained in production until 1929, examples in this ruby lustre colourway were produced in limited numbers, making the design especially desirable among Fairyland Lustre collectors.

Excellent antique condition. Complete preservation of the enamels, gilding and lustre decoration. Examined under UV light with no evidence of restoration. A particularly well-preserved example with exceptional colour, surface quality and outstanding decorative impact.
