At 42.5 cm in diameter and weighing 3386 grams, it has the presence of a serious display object and would make a striking centrepiece in an interior or porcelain collection.\u003cbr\u003e\n\u003cbr\u003e\nThe recessed central well is finely painted with a youthful courtly figure beside a table with auspicious objects, plants and fruit. Around the interior are butterflies, lotus flowers and delicate foliage, while the exterior is painted with a continuous frieze of elegant figures in brightly coloured robes. The painting is of a notably high standard: the faces are finely drawn, the black outlines are controlled, and the small details of plants, textiles and accessories show the skill of an accomplished porcelain painter.\u003cbr\u003e\n\u003cbr\u003e\nThe underside bears a blue six-character apocryphal Kangxi mark, 大清康熙年製, reading \"Da Qing Kangxi Nian Zhi\" — \"Made in the Kangxi period of the Great Qing\". This is a traditional later mark, not a Kangxi-period date.\u003cbr\u003e\n\u003cbr\u003e\nThis exact bowl appears to correspond to Lyon \u0026amp; Turnbull, Fine Antiques, 31 March 2004, Lot 72, described as \"An unusual Chinese circular bowl\", 42.5 cm diameter, with castellated border, butterflies, lilies, a central figure, exterior figural frieze and blue six-character mark.\u003cbr\u003e\n\u003cbr\u003e\nCondition is excellent. The bowl has been checked under UV light: no cracks, no restoration and no overpainting were detected.
