A beautifully painted Japanese Satsuma bowl of rounded form, Kyoto, late Meiji period (c.1890), likely from the Heian or Hododa workshop. At the centre stands a bijin surrounded by children under a flowering camellia, painted in soft enamels and gold. The interior has a floral gilt border; the exterior, a frieze of irises in translucent greens and mauves. The mark was intentionally removed from the base during later resale, a known Kyoto practice.

Condition
Excellent antique condition. Only the glaze on the base appears lightly abraded where a mark was once placed; no chips, cracks, or restorations. The wooden stand shown is not included.
