Beautiful late 19th-century Dresden porcelain lidded ginger jar, attributed to Helena Wolfsohn, c. 1880. Classic baluster form with a domed cover, richly hand-painted with Watteau-style romantic scenes and colourful bouquets on a vibrant blue ground. The neck, base, and lid are adorned with raised gilt scrollwork and intricate lattice, while the finial and cover are finished with matching cartouches. Known as a "ginger jar" due to its traditional form inspired by Chinese export porcelain, this example was produced for decorative use in Dresden's leading workshops. The base bears the underglaze blue "AR" mark, an imitation of the famous "Augustus Rex" signature used on early Meissen porcelain. Helena Wolfsohn's atelier was renowned for exceptional painting quality, blending Meissen-inspired motifs with Dresden's own artistic flair, and for promoting women artists. A highly collectible example of Wolfsohn's Dresden porcelain, with rare blue ground and outstanding Meissen-style painting. Lidded ginger jars of this type are increasingly hard to find in such beautiful condition.
Condition: Excellent antique condition. Minor wear to enamels and gilding in places; otherwise no chips, cracks, or restorations. Please see photos.
