Rare Aynsley named view cabinet plates by J J Birbeck, set of four Victorian cobalt and gilt landscape plates c.1888

£1,100.00
A beautiful set of four English bone china cabinet plates produced by John Aynsley & Sons of Longton, Staffordshire, in 1888 and painted by the noted porcelain artist Joseph James Birbeck Junior. Decorated with deep cobalt blue grounds, rich gilding and finely painted landscape views, the set reflects the quality and craftsmanship for which Victorian Aynsley became renowned.

Each plate depicts a different named British view: Windermere, Bassenthwaite Lake, Loch Leven and Ross Castle. Together they form a complete Named View series celebrating some of the most admired waterside landscapes of Britain and Ireland. The scenes are signed by Birbeck, one of the leading English porcelain painters of his generation.

Founded in 1775, Aynsley became one of Staffordshire's leading manufacturers of fine bone china and would later become an official supplier to the British Royal Household. Complete sets are considerably harder to find than individual examples, particularly when all views remain together. The rich cobalt borders and signed painting give the group strong display appeal as well as collector interest.

A rare opportunity to acquire a complete matching set combining signed painting, celebrated landscape views and luxurious Victorian decoration.
