A beautifully matched pair of Kyoto Satsuma vases, each painted with a continuous river landscape in soft autumn colours. Maple branches in red and gold frame turquoise water, pines and tiered pagodas, all rendered with the fine linework and controlled gilding typical of better Kyoto export studios c.1900.
The ivory crackle ground and brocade-style borders on the shoulders reflect refined late-Meiji craftsmanship. As a pair, the two vases create a balanced panoramic composition ideal for mantel or console display.
